BEDFORD — Bedford City Utilities has released its tentative summer schedule for city-wide fire hydrant flushing, set to begin the evening of Sunday, July 5, 2026, and run through Thursday night, July 16, 2026.

Utilities Director Misty Adams noted that the schedule is subject to change based on the progression of each day’s work and could be altered or entirely canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Impact on Residents and Water Quality
During the flushing process, local water customers may notice temporary fluctuations in water pressure and/or some discoloration in their tap water.
If your water appears discolored, Bedford City Utilities advises taking the following precautions:
- Run your cold water tap until it flows completely clear.
- Postpone washing laundry until the discoloration clears up to prevent staining.
- Limit the use of hot water until the cold water lines run clear.
