Obituary: Sammy L. King

April 24, 1943 – June 20, 2026

Sammy L. King, 83, of Hanover, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 20, 2026.

Born on April 24, 1943, in Bedford, Indiana, Sammy was raised in the community he proudly called home for many years. Following a dedicated career with General Motors, he retired and moved to Michigan in 2005 to enjoy the next chapter of life with his family.

Sammy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Freda (Lingelbach) King; his son, Gary (Kerry) King; his grandchildren, Sadie (Jason) Adair, Alexis (Justin) Futrell, Kathleen King, Alyssa King, Brooklyn King, Bailey King, and Tori King; and his great-grandchildren, Xavier, Colson, Everleigh, Willow, and Lucas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Kathleen King; his sister, June Hewetson; and his son, Robin King.

Sammy was known as a hardworking man who devoted his life to providing for and supporting his family. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially spending time with those he loved. Family cookouts were among his favorite occasions, bringing everyone together to share food, laughter, and lasting memories.

He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed bowling, spending many years participating in a local bowling league. A passionate supporter of Indiana University athletics, Sammy faithfully followed Hoosier basketball and remained loyal to the football team through both the difficult seasons and the exciting resurgence in recent years.

Honoring Sammy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
