LYONS — A Bloomfield man is behind bars after law enforcement caught him exiting an upper level of a home during an alleged Sunday morning break-in.
According to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department, emergency dispatchers received a call reporting a burglary in progress at approximately 8:28 a.m. on Sunday, June 14, 2026. Deputies were immediately dispatched to the residential property, located on West 500 South in the rural Lyons area.

Upon arriving at the scene, sheriff’s deputies quickly established a perimeter to secure the exterior of the house. While monitoring the home, officers observed a male suspect attempting to exit from an upper story of the residence.
With tactical assistance from responding officers with the Linton Police Department, deputies moved in and took the suspect into custody without further incident.
Authorities have officially identified the suspect as Shawn Toon, 38, of Bloomfield. Following his arrest at the scene, Toon was transported to the Greene County Jail, where he is being held on several preliminary charges, including burglary, a Level 5 felony, theft, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a Class A misdemeanor.
Under Indiana law, a Level 5 felony carries a potential sentencing range of one to six years in prison if convicted.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
