Brownstown man sentenced to prison following conviction on 14 charges of child sexual abuse

BROWNSTOWN A 60-year-old Brownstown man has been ordered to serve four decades behind bars following his conviction on over a dozen charges stemming from the long-term sexual abuse of a child.

On Tuesday, Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Richard W. Poynter sentenced Christopher Green to 40 years in the Indiana Department of Correction. The sentencing follows an April jury trial in which Green was found guilty of 14 felonies and one misdemeanor.

The extensive list of charges leveled against Green included child molesting, vicarious sexual conduct, incest, attempted obstruction of justice, neglect of a dependent, and battery resulting in bodily injury.

The criminal investigation was launched in September 2023 after officers with the Seymour Police Department received a report detailing a harrowing pattern of historical abuse. According to investigators, Green engaged in inappropriate sexual contact with a victim that began 22 years prior and persisted for 11 years.

Following the initial disclosure, law enforcement executed a search warrant at a residence in Brownstown. After recovering evidence directly corroborating the allegations, officers arrested Green on September 29, 2023.

Throughout the legal proceedings, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office detailed how Green subjected his victims to a continuous cycle of abuse, neglect, intimidation, and sexual misconduct.

Following Tuesday’s sentencing, the state’s legal team commended the survivors for their immense bravery during the trial.

“Despite the emotional difficulty of revisiting years of trauma, they chose to stand before a jury and tell the truth,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement. “Their strength and determination were instrumental in securing these convictions.”

The case was brought to trial and successfully secured by Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Lynsey N. Fleetwood and Deputy Prosecutor Sara Laska.
