LAWRENCE COUNTY — Commuters and residents in western Lawrence County should prepare for upcoming traffic disruptions as infrastructure improvements get underway this week.

Beginning Friday, June 12, 2026, Boone Hollow Road will be closed to all through traffic at the bridge spanning Indian Creek. The specific closure is situated on Boone Hollow Road between Armstrong Station Road and Indian Creek Road.
According to county highway officials, the closure is necessary to facilitate a comprehensive deck overlay repair on the bridge structure. The construction and rehabilitation work is projected to take between 30 and 60 days to fully complete.
While the bridge portion itself will be entirely impassable during this window, county officials confirmed that residents will maintain full access to their homes and properties on either side of the bridge throughout the duration of the project.
Strict Weight Limit Reminders for Detours
With traffic expected to shift onto surrounding rural routes, county leaders are issuing a critical safety reminder regarding nearby infrastructure.
Drivers utilizing Armstrong Station Road as an alternate route must adhere to the strict posted weight limits on the historic bridge over Spring Creek. The bridge features a permanent 5-ton (10,000-pound) weight restriction.
Local emergency services, agricultural operators, and delivery drivers operating heavy machinery, large commercial vehicles, or loaded trucks that exceed the 5-ton threshold are explicitly instructed to map out alternate routes that completely avoid the Spring Creek structure. Passing oversized vehicles over the historic bridge risks severe structural damage and safety compromises.
“We apologize for the inconvenience and would like to thank everyone for their patience while we work to improve the infrastructure of Lawrence County,” county officials stated in a release.
Drivers are urged to slow down, watch for shifting traffic patterns, and allow extra travel time through the Indian Creek area over the next two months.
