Obituary: Dorothy Ann (Clark) Zumhingst

March 2, 1931 – June 8, 2026

Dorothy Ann (Clark) Zumhingst, 95, of Jeffersonville, formerly of Seymour, passed away Monday, June 8, 2026, at her home in Jeffersonville with her family by her side.

Born in Chicago, IL, on March 2, 1931, she was the daughter of Rupert and Ruth Clark and was raised in Hanover, IN, with her five siblings. She married Herbert H.C. Zumhingst on June 2, 1951, and was married for almost 57 years, having four children together.

While her husband was serving his country, she was Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Zumhingst family. Dorothy helped her husband develop the Sherwood Terrace Subdivision and co-owned several business ventures. She always loved teaching her children and grandchildren through playing games and cooking with them. Enjoying sewing and reading were some of her favorite hobbies. Always a woman who cared deeply for those around her and her family, she loved with everything she had. Family was always priority number one.

She is survived by her brothers, Raymond L. Clark and Alford H. Clark, along with her four children, Wayne (Sheila) Zumhingst, Diane (Harold) Scott, Karen Zumhingst, and Paul (Kathy) Zumhingst; eleven grandchildren, including Chad (Nikki) Hageman, Tammi (Brian) Burns, David (Kendra) Zumhingst, Peter Kriete, Amanda (Don) Edlin, Tracie-Ruth (Bradley) Miller, Andrea (Jeremy) Hough, Emma Zumhingst, Aaron Zumhingst, Hannah (Qing) Luo, and Karolyn (Luke) Thomas; and with fifteen great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Herbert H.C. Zumhingst; her mother, Ruth (Macway) Clark; her father, Rupert Peter Clark; her brother, Rupert Edward Clark; her brother, Arthur G. Clark; and her sister, Grace E. Robertson.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour, with Rev. Matt Woods officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, and on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., also at Burkholder Chapel in Seymour.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in Dorothy’s memory to Bristol Hospice or Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Arrangements have been entrusted to Jon Pace and Scotty Wessel at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour.
