John “Granddad” Leon Bunch,97, of Bedford, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Mitchell Manor.
Born February 2, 1929, he was the son of Alvin Grover and Edith Geraldine (Taylor) Bunch. He married Doris I. Pace on December 12, 1952, and she preceded him in death on October 18, 2010.
John was a 1948 graduate of Bedford High School. He was a Staff Sergeant with the US Army serving during World War II and the Korean War. He retired from Reliance Electric and was a member of the First Church of God in Bedford.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Jane Vorndran and Patti Sue (Terry Dean) Dorsett, both of Bedford; one son, David Lee (Pam) Bunch of Bedford; grandchildren, Crista Baker, Joshua Vorndran, Alesha Morris, Courtney Dorsett, Kennedy Bunch, and Cale (Claire) Bunch; great-grandchildren, Trevor Alvey, Allie Morris, Kailey Eagans, John Dylan Morris, Calvin Vorndran, Cooper Vorndran, and Travis Gordon; and two nieces, Terry Strohm, and April (Bob) Czenkusch.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Doris, two brothers, Alvin and Donald Bunch, and one sister, Juanita (William) Mitchell.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 13th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Mark Duncan officiating. Burial will follow in Beech Grove Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Gillen Post #33. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on June 13th at the Day & Carter Mortuary.
