BLOOMINGTON — Today, June 3, 2026, marks a somber and baffling milestone for the Bloomington community and the family of Lauren Spierer. Despite the passage of a decade and a half, the Bloomington Police Department (BPD) maintains that the case is still wide open and heavily scrutinized.

The Night She Vanished
Spierer, a fashion merchandising major from Scarsdale, New York, was last seen around 4:30 a.m. on June 3, 2011. She had spent the evening at Kilroy’s Sports Bar and visiting local student apartments in downtown Bloomington.
Past investigations and surveillance logs indicate she left her personal belongings, including her shoes and cellphone, behind. She was last seen on foot near the intersection of North College Avenue and West 11th Street, reportedly walking south toward her apartment at Smallwood Plaza. She never arrived.

Detectives with the Bloomington Police Department continue to share information regularly with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners. In the past 12 months alone, 23 new tips led to multiple fresh interviews and additional case supplements.
“We remain unwavering in our promise to pursue every lead and exhaust every available resource in our search for Lauren,” the Bloomington Police Department said in an official statement ahead of the anniversary. “No matter how much time passes, our commitment to finding answers for the family and friends of Lauren will not falter.”
Over the years, searches have spanned local lakes, deep Indiana forests, and even prompted a 2015 FBI raid on a property in Morgan County. Yet, no definitive evidence has ever been found. Spierer’s family continues to hold out hope that someone carrying a long-held secret will finally step forward.
BPD continues to urge the public to come forward with any piece of data, reminding everyone that even the smallest, seemingly insignificant detail could bridge the gap in a 15-year mystery.
