Three-vehicle crash leads to drug and OWI charges for Worthington man

LOOGOOTEE — A Sunday morning multi-vehicle collision on U.S. 231 has resulted in a host of felony and misdemeanor charges for a Greene County man after state troopers allegedly uncovered hundreds of grams of drugs at the scene.

According to the Indiana State Police, Master Trooper Jarrod Lents responded to a three-vehicle crash within the city limits of Loogootee. Upon arrival, Lents identified the driver of one of the vehicles involved as 43-year-old Curtis Crisp of Worthington. A juvenile male was riding as a passenger in Crisp’s vehicle at the time of the impact.

While documenting the wreckage and interviewing those involved, troopers noted that Crisp exhibited clear physical signs of impairment, alongside other indicators of criminal activity.

A subsequent search of the scene escalated the traffic investigation into a criminal narcotics case. Inside a backpack belonging to Crisp, Master Trooper Lents reportedly uncovered approximately 250 grams of suspected marijuana and an assortment of controlled prescription medications.

Following standard protocol for operating-while-intoxicated investigations, Crisp was taken to Daviess Community Hospital in Washington, Indiana, where he underwent a chemical test and received a medical evaluation.

Once cleared by hospital staff, Crisp was transported to the Martin County Jail for booking. However, the intake process yielded further evidence. Jail staff reportedly found additional quantities of suspected marijuana concealed on Crisp’s person during a secondary search at the detention facility.

Crisp was transported to the Martin County Jail on multiple preliminary counts, including operating a vehicle while intoxicated (OWI) with a minor passenger, neglect of a dependent, possession of a legend drug, dealing marijuana, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of marijuana.

Despite the three-vehicle chain reaction, local emergency medical services did not report any life-threatening injuries among the other drivers or Crisp’s juvenile passenger at the scene.

Because the crash involved multiple vehicles on a primary highway artery, local Loogootee police and emergency crews assisted with traffic control and debris removal while state police reconstructed the scene.

The investigation into the mechanics of the collision and the timeline of Crisp’s actions remains active.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
