Indiana State Police investigating officer-involved shooting in Muncie

MUNCIE – The Indiana State Police has been requested by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Department to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in Muncie.

At approximately 12:13 a.m., law enforcement officers from multiple agencies responded to a report of a person being shot during an event in the area of Bunch Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. During the large police response, a Delaware County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped his vehicle and began approaching the scene on foot.

While walking toward the scene, the deputy encountered a vehicle under circumstances that remain under investigation. During the encounter, the deputy discharged his department-issued sidearm at the vehicle.

The vehicle was struck by gunfire; however, none of the occupants nor the deputy sustained any injuries during the incident.

The Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division is investigating the deputy’s use of force. Upon completion of the investigation, the findings will be submitted to the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

The investigation remains active and ongoing. No further information is being released at this time.
