Mitchell to unveil vision for inclusive community playground at June 9 public town hall meeting

MITCHELL — Community members will have an opportunity next month to preview plans for a new inclusive playground project designed to serve children of all abilities during a public town hall meeting hosted by the Mitchell Parks & Recreation Board.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 9, at 6 p.m. at the Mitchell Community Building, 101 Tom Green Drive. Light refreshments will be available, and the public is encouraged to attend.

According to Mitchell Parks & Rec Board President Sally Miller, the proposed playground concept has been developed over the past several months through collaboration between the parks board, Mayor Don Caudell, designers, and community partners.

Organizers say the project is intended to emphasize inclusivity, accessibility, creativity, and expanded play opportunities for children of all abilities.

“We are excited to officially unveil the proposed design and share the vision behind this transformational project for our community,” Miller said in a statement announcing the event.

During the meeting, attendees will be able to view playground design renderings and learn more about the project’s goals, features, and potential impact on the community. Organizers also plan to discuss fundraising efforts, project budget estimates, and a potential timeline for construction.

Community members will have opportunities to ask questions, provide feedback, and learn about ways to become involved through partnerships, sponsorships, and volunteer support.

Miller said organizers hope the project becomes a long-term investment for families throughout the region.

“We hope to shift our community from asking, ‘Why does Mitchell deserve this playground?’ to rather ask, ‘Why not Mitchell?’” Miller said.

Officials also said they plan to livestream or record the meeting for residents who are unable to attend in person.
