Secretary of State Diego Morales’ office hosts Annual Stock Market Simulations awards ceremony at Statehouse

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Secretary of State’s Office welcomed students, educators, and families from across the state to the Indiana Statehouse for the annual Indiana Stock Market Simulation Awards Ceremony, recognizing top-performing students who participated in the statewide investment education competition.

The Indiana Stock Market Simulation is coordinated by the Indiana Council for Economic Education, Purdue University, through support provided by a grant from the Indiana Secretary of State’s Office Securities Division.

During the ten-week simulation, students are given a fictional investment portfolio and challenged to make real-world investment decisions based on current market activity. Students compete individually or as teams, and schools are encouraged to enter multiple groups. At the conclusion of the simulation, students with the strongest-performing portfolios are recognized during the annual awards ceremony at the Statehouse. There were more than 7,000 participants. The top spring participant grew their portfolio by 26%, and the top fall participant grew their portfolio by 22%.

Indiana Secretary of State Diego Morales congratulated the students for their hard work and commitment to learning valuable financial skills.

“Programs like the Stock Market Simulation help prepare the next generation of Hoosiers for financial success. These students are learning important lessons about investing, decision-making, risk, and long-term planning. Investor education is one of the most valuable life skills a person can have, and our office is proud to support opportunities that make learning about finances engaging and interactive,” said Diego Morales, Indiana Secretary of State.

The Indiana Secretary of State’s Securities Division works year-round to educate and protect Hoosier investors through investor education, fraud prevention, and financial literacy initiatives. Recently, the Securities Division launched Indiana Money Quest, a new financial education initiative designed to help Hoosiers of all ages strengthen their financial fitness skills through interactive learning tools and resources.
