ELLETTSVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence suffered three losses in the Edgewood Invitational during high school softball action on Saturday.
The Stars (6-18) dropped a tough 9-8 decision to West Vigo in the opener, fell to Edgewood 10-4 in the second game, then got thumped 14-3 in five innings by Monrovia in the finale.
BNL was forced to adjust the lineups with a first-game injury to starting catcher Dalanie Davis, and back spasms with pitcher Macee Nicholson.
“We did what we could,” BNL coach Brad Gilbert said. “We didn’t have enough weapons. There were a lot of positives, but it was a tough weekend.”
West Vigo 9, BNL 8 – West Vigo (10-6) scored two runs in the top of the seventh to take the opening game.
The Vikings, with an offense averaging 10 runs per game, rallied from an early 6-2 deficit with a five-run third. The Stars battled back to retake the lead with two runs in the fifth, but West Vigo’s attack came back to life in the final frame.
BNL tallied four in the first. Nicholson started the scoring with a RBI single, Karsyn Coleman followed with a run-scoring double, and Adalynn Bailey cracked a two-run single. The Stars added two more in the second as Bella Warren singled, Jaden Schofield walked, Sara Williams grounded out to chase home a run, and Nicholson lofted a sacrifice fly.
West Vigo scored four runs with two outs in the third. Camryn Funk popped a RBI double, Lily Krause clubbed a two-run single, and Gracie Davis followed with a run-scoring hit. In the BNL fifth, Warren tripled in a run with two outs and scored on a Schofield single.
Funk went the distance in the circle for the Vikings, allowing 10 hits and seven walks while throwing 150 pitches. Warren was 3 for 3 while Bailey had two hits. The Stars were guilty of three errors, five wild pitches, and allowed six unearned runs. Funk had three hits.
“That was a battle,” Gilbert said. “We just couldn’t get the last out and lost a tough one.”

Edgewood 10, BNL 4 – The Mustangs, ranked No.6 in Class 3A, rallied with four runs in the fifth while improving to 17-3. They added three insurance runs in the sixth.
The Stars scored twice in the second for a 2-1 lead. With two outs after a Kali McKee single, Kadynn Canada doubled to center, and Taylor Pruett singled home both runs. BNL added a run in the third for a 3-2 lead on Bailey’s double, then took a 4-3 lead in the fifth on Sara Williams’ solo home run to left.
BNL finished with 12 hits, as Canada, Bailey, Williams and Warren all totaled two each.
Ella Sproul had three hits and four RBIs for Edgewood. Ally Bland earned the win in the circle with two scoreless innings, striking out four.
Monrovia 14, BNL 3 – In the finale, the Bulldogs (9-12) slugged five home runs while overpowering the Stars in five innings.
Monrovia exploded for seven runs in the second (with four homers) and four more in the third en route to the mercy-rule win. Lyla Wirey hit a solo home run to left field and Nevaeh Dillon followed for back-to-back blasts. Later in the frame, Camryn Wolfe and Avery Wolfe ripped two-run bombs. Harper Fair hit the fifth homer in the third.
BNL scored in the second (Schofield RBI double), third (McKee RBI single) and fourth (Warren run-scoring double).
Avery Wolfe finished with three hits and four RBIs. McKee had two hits for the Stars. Monrovia also conquered BNL 8-7 on April 11.
”We just ran out of gas,” Gilbert said. “And three-quarters of our outs were line drives right at somebody. They hit the ball in the air and it carried out, and we hit line drives to people. We couldn’t get anything going. They took the wind out of our sails.”
Coleman recorded her 300th career strikeout.
BNL will host Seymour on Tuesday.
