Teddy L. Hughes, 89, of Mitchell, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026, at Stonebridge Health Campus in Bedford.
Born February 16, 1937, in Lincoln County, Kentucky. He was the son of Earl F. and Ila (McKee) Hughes. Teddy married Shirley Smith on November 28, 1958, and she survives. He worked as a teacher at Villa Grove High School in Villa Grove, Illinois, for 34 years. He attended Faith Mission Church in Bedford.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hughes; three children, Stephen (Deb) Hughes of Hickory Hills, IL, Renee (DeWayne) Joslin of Selma, IN, and Ronna (Steve) Craig of Bedford; eleven grandchildren, Michael Hughes, Chris Hughes, Gina Day, Sean Hughes, Timothy Hughes, Elizabeth Rose, Heather Michalik-Hughes, Nathan Hughes, Scott Craig, Rachel Craig, and Ryan Craig; seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Dan Hughes.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9th, in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Rev. J. Stevan Manley and Rev. Bryan Line officiating. Burial will follow in Connerly Switch Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 8th, and from 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday, all at Day & Carter Mortuary.
