BEDFORD – A Bedford man is facing multiple felony drug charges following an investigation by the Bedford Police Department on Sunday evening.
According to a probable cause affidavit, officers responded to a report of suspicious behavior involving two men in a vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot. The caller expressed concern that the individuals appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and could pose a danger to themselves or others. The vehicle was gone when officers arrived.
Police located the vehicle in the Walmart parking lot and made contact with two men, both of whom reportedly showed signs of impairment, including erratic movements and difficulty maintaining balance. Officers detained the individuals and requested assistance from a K-9 unit.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of suspected illegal substances and drug-related items. Authorities reported locating quantities of substances that field-tested positive for methamphetamine and fentanyl, along with paraphernalia.

One of the individuals, identified as 29-year-old Kenneth L. Chenault, of Bedford, was taken into custody and transported to the Lawrence County Jail after receiving medical clearance. He faces several charges, including dealing methamphetamine, dealing a narcotic drug, possession of large quantities of controlled substances, unlawful possession of a syringe, possession of drug paraphernalia, and public intoxication.
The second individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment due to an infection in his heart and was not immediately jailed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
