Lawrence County Commissioners appoint new library board member, approve improvements to Courthouse parking lot

BEDFORD – During their Monday morning meeting, the Lawrence County Commissioners moved forward with several administrative updates and maintenance projects, ranging from library leadership to courthouse upkeep.

New Leadership at Mitchell Library

In a move to fill a key community role, the commissioners voted unanimously to appoint Irene Stockton to the Mitchell Community Public Library board. Stockton will join the board to help oversee the library’s operations and community outreach programs in Mitchell.

Courthouse Maintenance Awarded

The exterior of the Lawrence County Courthouse will soon see a refresh. The commissioners awarded a contract to Miller Precision Painting to restripe the courthouse parking lot.

Miller Precision Painting was selected after submitting the lowest bid for the project at $3,400. The work is expected to improve safety and organization for visitors and staff at the historic downtown Bedford site.

Surveyor Services Approved

In other business, the board approved a financial claim submitted by County Surveyor Cory Allen.

The claim, totaling $1,400, is designated for a section corner contract, a vital part of maintaining accurate property and boundary records within the county. The commissioners noted that the funds for this contract will be drawn directly from Allen’s existing department budget.
