SAINT MEINRAD – A head-on collision on State Road 162 claimed the life of a Dale woman and left another seriously injured on Monday evening.
Emergency responders from the Indiana State Police and the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene north of State Road 62 at approximately 8:20 p.m. following reports of a two-vehicle crash just west of Saint Meinrad.

According to the Indiana State Police, the preliminary investigation suggests that Amber Gogel, 37, of Dale, was traveling northbound on State Road 162 in a 2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer. At the same time, Amanda Kern, 40, also of Dale, was traveling southbound in a 2014 Dodge Durango.
Authorities state that the Trailblazer allegedly crossed the center line, striking the Durango head-on in the southbound lane.
State Police confirmed that death notifications have been made to the families involved. An autopsy for Gogel is scheduled for Wednesday morning.
The crash remains under active investigation by Trooper Levi Hupp, with assistance from Senior Trooper Tatum Rohlfing and Trooper Jack Fischer.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene to assist with the investigation and traffic control, including the Spencer County Sheriff’s Office, Santa Claus Police Department, Spencer County Coroner, Spencer County EMS, and Jaws Towing of Santa Claus.
