East takes advantage of miscues for 5-2 victory over BNL

COLUMBUS – Columbus East scored four runs in the fifth inning while conquering Bedford North Lawrence 5-2 during high school baseball action on Tuesday night.

The Olympians (6-8) survived a dangerous BNL rally in the top of the seventh while handing the Stars (5-6) their second straight loss.

BNL scored first in the third on a RBI double by Cam Gates. East took advantage of one of four BNL errors to score a run in the fourth.

In the fifth, the Olympians scored four times with only one hit. Two errors, two hit batters and a RBI single by Logun Rager were key in the rally.

The Stars battled back with a run in the seventh, loading the bases with two walks and an infield single by Grady Dalton, then scoring on a walk by Cutler Chastain before East recorded the final out.

BNL was limited to four hits. East starter Ryker Stott allowed only one earned run and struck out five in five innings. Chastain struck out 10 in four innings of work on the mound for the Stars.

BNL will face Martinsville on Friday.
