MARTINSVILLE– A Saturday night fatal crash investigation by the Indiana State Police resulted in the closure of southbound and northbound lanes of I-69, south of Martinsville, and the evacuation of three subjects by medical helicopter.
Darius L. Williams, 20, of Indianapolis, died as a result of injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on I-69 southbound near the 133-mile marker.
Troopers from the Bloomington District responded at approximately 9:30 p.m. to the crash. The two vehicles involved were identified as a tan 2003 Buick LeSabre and a black 2026 Chevrolet Colorado pickup truck.
According to the preliminary crash investigation, the Buick LeSabre was parked in the roadway on the southbound median side, but not on the emergency berm. Four subjects were out of the vehicle, and one passenger remained inside the Buick when it was struck by the Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Cami Lynn Voiles, 26, of Morgantown.
EMS and fire responded to the scene as well.
Three subjects suffering trauma, including Williams, were evacuated by medical helicopter to IU Health Methodist and Ascension St. Vincent hospitals in Indianapolis. Voiles was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital by ambulance.
Troopers from the Indiana State Police’s Reconstruction Team responded and assisted with the crash investigation. The northbound and southbound lanes of I-69 were closed for several hours to complete the on-scene investigation. Upon its completion, all I-69 northbound and southbound lanes were declared open.
The crash remains under investigation.
