CORYDON – Bedford North Lawrence finished second in the Bud Bennet Invitational during boys high school golf action at Old Capital Golf Club on Saturday.
The Stars carded a team total of 334. Corydon won the title with 309 in the eight-team field.
BNL’s Evan Tillett carded a sensational round of 1-under 71 to finish second in the battle for overall medalist. He eagled the par-4 second hole and posted three other birdies, including three on the final five holes of the back nine.
“Evan was great today,” BNL coach Trey Turner said. “He made some avoidable mistakes, but he also made birdies to offset those. He’s playing really good golf right now, so we need to keep him on this hot streak.”
Brody Simmons fired an 83 that included two birdies, and Hudson Martin posted 88. Brayden Ohl capped the team scoring with 92.
”It took us a little while to get adjusted to the quicker greens, but once we settled in, I felt that we played some pretty good golf,” Turner said. “There are certainly some things we can clean up, especially around the greens, but we did a lot of good things.”
Corydon’s Nathan Lewis was the medalist with a 2-under 70.
BNL will host Paoli on Monday.
