Trooper Michael Bertacini receives 2025 Trooper of the District Award

PENDLETON – Lieutenant Coley McCutcheon, Commander of the Indiana State Police Pendleton District, has announced the recipient of the 2025 Indiana State Police Pendleton District Trooper of the Year Award. This prestigious honor is presented to the district trooper who most exemplifies the department’s high standards and commitment to its mission.

Trooper Michael Bertacini has been named the 2025 Pendleton District Trooper of the Year. He was recognized during a ceremony held at the Indiana Government Center South Building in Indianapolis, where Superintendent Anthony Scott presented the award. Since joining the Indiana State Police in 2024, Trooper Bertacini has rapidly distinguished himself through his commitment to traffic safety and criminal enforcement.

Throughout 2025, Bertacini conducted 2,302 vehicle stops, resulting in 2,467 traffic violations.  From those traffic stops.  His enforcement efforts led to the arrest of 93 individuals and 115 criminal charges, including 17 felonies.  Trooper Bertacini also removed 8 intoxicated drivers from Indiana roadways.  “His proactive approach in addressing these issues has not only made our roads safer”, said Lieutenant Coley McCutcheon, “but it also allowed him to become a catalyst of change in our district”.

Trooper Bertacini is also known for fostering a strong team environment. He actively supports fellow troopers, shares knowledge gained from prior law enforcement experience, and encourages continuous improvement among his peers.

His dedication to proactive, purposeful policing makes him a respected member of the Pendleton District and a deserving recipient of this honor.
