Trooper Weisbrodt receives Lifesaving Award at 2025 Indiana State Police Awards Ceremony

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana State Police honored Trooper Avery Weisbrodt with a Lifesaving Award during the 2025 Indiana State Police Awards Ceremony held at the Indiana Government Center South Building.

Trooper Weisbrodt was recognized by Superintendent Anthony Scott for his decisive and life-saving actions during a serious crash that occurred on September 20, 2025, at approximately 9:09 p.m. in Henry County.

While on duty, Trooper Weisbrodt responded to a dispatch from the Henry County Sheriff’s Department regarding a crash involving a pickup truck towing an enclosed trailer and a motorcycle.

Upon arrival, he observed the motorcyclist suffering from catastrophic injuries, including a near amputation and compound fractures to the lower body.  The rider had already lost a significant amount of blood.

Bystanders had begun rendering aid and attempted to apply a makeshift tourniquet using a belt.  Recognizing the severity of the injuries and the immediate threat to the victim’s life, Trooper Weisbrodt quickly deployed his department-issued tourniquet and properly applied it to control the bleeding.

According to EMS officials, Trooper Weisbrodt’s prompt and proper application of the tourniquet was critical, and without his immediate intervention, the victim would have likely succumbed to blood loss prior to receiving advanced medical care.

Trooper Weisbrodt’s actions exemplify the highest standards of the Indiana State Police.  His abilty to remain calm under pressure, relying on his training, an act without hesitation directly resulted in saving a life.
