DEKALB COUNTY – On Thursday, April 16, 2026, just before 7:30 p.m., an Indiana State Police Trooper responded to a crash at County Road 40 and State Road 1 in DeKalb County. As the Trooper began their investigation, it was determined the driver at fault was suspected of driving while intoxicated.
The initial investigation revealed that a gray Ford Bronco was traveling west on County Road 40 and had come to a stop at the stop sign at State Road 1. The Bronco, driven by Megan Freudenberger (47) of Auburn, was struck from behind by a brown 2019 GMC Acadia. The Acadia was operated by Austin Brummett (30), also of Auburn.
Both drivers sustained minor injuries. Ms. Freudenberger was not transported by ambulance but was evaluated at a local hospital. Mr. Brummett was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation.
During the on-scene investigation, Mr. Brummett was suspected of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Officers located alcohol containers and a handgun inside the vehicle he had been driving.
After Brummett was released from the hospital, he was taken into custody and arrested on the following charges: possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, alerted gun identification, unlawful carrying of a handgun with a prior conviction within 15 years, possession of a firearm by a domestic batterer, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

The Indiana State Police were assisted by the Butler Police Department, DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Parkview EMS, and the Butler Fire Department. Jeff’s Towing and Tony’s Towing assisted in removing the damaged vehicles.
