BEDFORD — A local woman was taken into custody Monday afternoon after several 911 callers reported her stumbling into traffic and eventually collapsing in a residential yard.
Kristy M. Fountain, 50, of Bedford, faces a preliminary charge of public intoxication following the incident near the intersection of 18th and M Streets.

The incident began at approximately 2:28 p.m. on April 13, when Bedford Police dispatch received reports of a woman in a gray and blue shirt stumbling into the roadway. While officers were en route, a second 911 caller informed dispatch that the woman had moved into a yard and was struggling to remain upright.
One witness told police she was driving through the area when she saw a person rolling around in the grass. The witness stated she initially believed it was a child in distress, but upon realizing it was an adult, she called 911, fearing a medical emergency.
Officer J. Landon Jones arrived to find Fountain sitting in a yard in the 1300 block of 19th Street. According to the probable cause affidavit, Officer Jones immediately recognized Fountain from previous professional interactions.
During the assessment, officers noted several signs of extreme impairment, including slurred speech, the odor of alcohol, and that Fountain was unable to walk on her own.
Due to her level of impairment, Fountain was first transported to IU Health Bedford Hospital for medical clearance. Once doctors determined she was stable, she was transported to the Lawrence County Jail for housing.
All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. This article is based on the information provided in the probable cause affidavit and does not represent a final determination of guilt or innocence.
