
NEWBURGH – Bedford North Lawrence dropped its first two games in the Castle Invitational during high school softball action on Friday night.
The Stars (1-9) suffered a 9-2 loss to Boonville in the opener, then fell to Avon 11-5 in the second game.
Boonville 9, BNL 2 – The Pioneers (3-6) broke away with a five-run sixth inning.
The Stars scored in the first when Bella Warren walked, took second on Jaden Schofield’s bunt, then scampered home on an error. But Boonville scored twice in the first (two hits, a hit batter, and two wild pitches) and two more in the second. Ashlyn Collins clubbed a base-loaded triple in the sixth.
Boonville hurler Nevaeh Wall struck out 12 and allowed only four hits. Dalanie Davis had two hits for BNL. Warren scored both runs for the Stars.
Avon 11, BNL 5 – The Orioles (3-2) broke a 5-5 deadlock with a four-run fifth.
BNL scored five runs in the second. Warren ripped a two-run double and Schofield followed with a two-run single. But Avon jumped in front in the fifth when three walks and a hit batter forced in one run, and Lilly Heath cracked a two-run single.
Avon extended its lead with Chloe Stopperich’s solo home run in the sixth. The Stars added a late run on Schofield’s double.
Warren and Schofield both had two hits. Stopperich had three hits and drove in five runs for the Orioles
BNL will face Elkhart on Saturday.
