New Albany man arrested after brandishing weapon and resisting law enforcement

CRAWFORD COUNTY – On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at approximately 10:05 p.m., Trooper Nathan Teusch and the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Marengo area for a man in the roadway screaming at motorists. At approximately 10:10 p.m., Officers located a male subject, who was later identified as Mark Durbin, 39, of New Albany.

Trooper Teusch attempted to speak to Durbin. Durbin became hostile, screaming obscenities, and refused commands. Durbin retrieved a large, sharp object from a wagon and waved it around towards the officers. Officers drew their firearms and ordered Durbin to drop the item. Durbin screamed obscenities again and fled on foot. Officers pursued Durbin until he fell on the ground, breaking the object. Durbin fled again, and Trooper Teusch deployed his ECD (Electronic Control Device).  Durbin was arrested and handcuffed. EMS arrived and checked Durbin for any potential injuries. Durbin was then transported to the Crawford County Jail and is currently being held on bond.

Durbin has been charged with the following:

  • Intimidation With A Deadly Weapon – Level 5 Felony
  • Resisting Law Enforcement – Level 6 Felony
  • Public Intoxication – Class B Misdemeanor
  • Disorderly Conduct – Class B Misdemeanor

Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
