BEDFORD – Bedford North Lawrence shuffled the deck, but Barr-Reeve had too many winning cards.
The Vikings conquered the Stars 5-0 during Monday’s clash on the BNL courts. BNL (0-2) featured a realigned lineup, compared to its season opener last week, and the Stars showed some progress after failing to claim a single game during last year’s encounter with the Vikings.
”It was a learning experience, and we really showed a lot of improvement,” BNL coach Jennifer Edwards said. “I’m proud of them, they played against a really good team. They rallied with them.”
Barr-Reeve’s Anniston Kelso stopped Emma Conover 6-0, 6-3 at No.1 singles, while Brylee Fuhrman topped Emma Voris 6-0, 6-0 at No.2. Brynnlee Rollins topped Bailey Fisher 6-0, 6-0 at No.3.
In doubles, the lineup positions where BNL made the most changes, Barr-Reeve prevailed as Shay Knepp and Belen Navarro fought off Claire Edwards and Elizabeth Miskuf 6-3, 6-1 at No.1. Ava Graber and Anna Sward rolled past Jada Key and Abi Bruner 6-1, 6-1 at No.2.
”We’re going to shuffle it a lot,” Edwards said. “We’re trying to figure out what we like, see different people play and where they feel the most comfortable. We told the girls not to get too comfortable in a spot. And don’t give up.”
BNL will visit North Daviess on Thursday.
