TELL CITY — A multi-day investigation into the death of a toddler has resulted in the arrest of two adults on preliminary charges of murder and neglect.
The Tell City Police Department announced Friday that Trevor Reichard-Hayes, 39, and Katherine Carter, 31, were taken into custody following the death of 2-year-old Erik Reichard. Both suspects are currently being held at the Perry County Jail.

The incident began Tuesday afternoon when emergency responders were called to a residence in the first block of Guttenberg Lane just before 1:20 p.m. Officers arrived to find the child unresponsive; he was later pronounced dead.
For the following three days, investigators from the Tell City Police Department and various Perry County agencies maintained a heavy presence at the home to process evidence.
In the wake of the investigation, authorities confirmed that two other children were removed from the home. The Indiana Department of Child Services is assisting with their care and placement.
While the police have recommended charges of murder and neglect, formal cases had not yet appeared in online court records as of Friday night.
Police have not yet clarified the specific relationship between the two suspects and the deceased child.
Local authorities have not yet released the cause of death, pending further medical examinations.
