Serious rollover crash on I-69 injures Mooresville family of six

BLOOMINGTON — A Mooresville family remains hospitalized following a violent rollover accident on Interstate 69 early Sunday morning. The crash, which occurred near the 107.5-mile marker in the northbound lanes, triggered a massive emergency response from Monroe County authorities.

At approximately 7:41 a.m. on March 29, deputies with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene to find a 2025 Ford Explorer in the median. Preliminary investigations suggest the vehicle left the roadway for unknown reasons, entered the center median, and rolled over multiple times.

The SUV was occupied by a 37-year-old man, a 37-year-old woman, and four children. Due to the severity of the damage, several occupants were trapped inside the wreckage.

Firefighters from the Monroe Fire Protection District performed a complex extrication process to free the victims. Emergency medical technicians reported that all six occupants sustained significant injuries during the crash.

All six victims were initially rushed to IU Health Bloomington Hospital. Following stabilization, one child was later transferred to Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis for advanced treatment.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Major Crash Investigation Team was called to the scene and spent several hours collecting evidence. According to officials, the 37-year-old driver is cooperating fully with the ongoing investigation.

At this time, investigators have not stated whether speed, weather, or mechanical failure played a role in the Explorer leaving the pavement.

Authorities are looking for any motorists who may have witnessed the crash or captured it on a dashcam. You can contact the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at 812-349-2781. Witnesses are asked to provide any available video footage or statements to help reconstruct the accident timeline.

This accident occurred during a busy Sunday morning travel period. The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office reminds drivers that under the “Move Over” Law, motorists must move to the far lane or significantly reduce their speed when approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with flashing lights. Failure to do so can result in fines and license suspension, as it endangers the first responders working at scenes like today’s I-69 crash.
