Jonathan “Tyler” Cain Burns, 38, of Greensburg, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Norton Kings Daughters Health Hospital in Madison, IN.
Born November 11, 1987, in Seymour, IN, he was the son of Asher Ray David Burns and Cathy Jean (Hopkins) Morgan. Tyler attended Austin High School where he excelled in all track event especially cross country.
Tyler was a US Army Veteran proudly serving in the Infantry and Military Police for eight years. He served in Iraq, Kuwait and in Haiti helping after the earthquakes.
Tyler was a member of the Laborers Local #576 Union in Kentucky and Indiana, and the Carpenters Local Union #175 in Louisville, Kentucky. He loved his family, friends, and was an amazing companion, father, and friend.
Tyler enjoyed working out, wood working, watching movies while eating lots of chocolate playing in the creek, spending time with his family, and especially playing Pokémon Go with his sons. He loved to learn new things, and he was known for being on time. He was also known for having a strong work ethic. He will be so greatly missed by his family, friends, and community.
Tyler is survived by his wife, Brandy Lynn Hilshorst of Greensburg, IN; children, Hayden Tyler Burns, Timothy Ryder Burns, and Kenneth Carter Burns, mother, Cathy Jean Morgan of Austin, stepmother, Janice Burns of Crothersville, brother’s, Asher Burns of Seymour, Justin Burns and Tommy Burns both of Austin, grandmother, Jean Hopkins of Austin, mother of Hayden Burns Martha Hanner, aunts and uncles, Gary (Drusilla) Hopkins of Scottsburg, Lindsey (Eva) Hopkins of Austin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Burns, stepfather, Jack Morgan, brother, Timothy Scott Kovener and grandfather, Louis Hopkins.
Funeral services for Tyler will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Burkholder Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Seymour. With Rev Todd Wooten officiating and Military Rites by the Jackson County Honor Guard. Visitation will be held also on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 4:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., also at Burkholder Chapel.
