BEDFORD — A Bedford woman was taken into custody Wednesday after police say she was intoxicated and resisted officers at a local retail store.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Officer Thomas Manke of the Bedford Police Department, officers were dispatched around 4:21 p.m. on March 23 to the 3100 block of John Williams Boulevard after a customer requested a welfare check on an employee who appeared intoxicated.

Officers reported observing Wendee Kaczorek slurring her words, swaying, and struggling to maintain her balance. Emergency medical services were called to evaluate her, during which she became aggressive and attempted to leave. Officers said she resisted being detained before being handcuffed and seated inside the store.
Authorities noted an odor of alcohol on Kaczorek’s breath, and officers located a half-empty bottle of vodka in a back room. Kaczorek initially gave inconsistent statements about the alcohol. She was transported to IU Health for medical clearance, where she continued to display unsteady behavior before being taken to the Lawrence County Jail.
Police charged Kaczorek with public intoxication and resisting law enforcement. She was arrested on site and lodged in the county jail.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
