LAWRENCE COUNTY — An Oolitic man is facing a felony charge months after a crash that left another individual with serious injuries, according to authorities.
A probable cause affidavit filed by Capt. Anthony G. Pope of the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office alleges that Michael A. Collins operated a vehicle while intoxicated during a May 19, 2025, crash that resulted in significant bodily harm to another individual.

According to the affidavit, a toxicology report from the Indiana State Department of Toxicology showed Collins had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.148 at the time of testing. The report, completed May 29, 2025, indicated a level well above the legal limit and consistent with impairment, police said.
The charge stems from a crash in which Collins and another individual were involved. Investigators said the collision resulted in serious injuries to the other driver.
Pope reported observing extensive trauma at the scene, including heavy facial bleeding and a fractured leg, injuries that required immediate medical attention. Additional information gathered during the investigation supported the severity of those injuries, according to the affidavit.
Based on the toxicology results and findings from the crash investigation, authorities allege Collins operated a vehicle while intoxicated and caused serious bodily injury.
Collins faces a preliminary charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, causing serious bodily injury.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
