Budd Stipp Road is open following emergency repair

BEDFORD — Normal traffic patterns have resumed on Budd Stipp Road after an emergency closure earlier today. Local officials confirmed this morning that the roadway is once again open to all vehicles, following a swift response from the Lawrence County Highway Department.

The closure was triggered early Tuesday morning after a “large hole”—identified as a sinkhole—was discovered in the middle of the driving surface.

Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder announced the immediate shutdown of the affected section of road out of an abundance of caution. The hole posed a significant structural risk to motorists, prompting crews to move in quickly to stabilize the area.

While the Highway Department initially warned that crews might be on-site throughout the day, the repairs were completed ahead of schedule. The department expressed its gratitude to local residents for their patience and for seeking alternate routes during the brief period of disruption.

“Budd Stipp Road is open; we have repaired the situation,” Sowder stated following the completion of the work. “Thanks for everything.”

The rapid fix ensures that commuters and residents living along Budd Stipp Road will not face further delays during the Tuesday afternoon and evening rush hours.
