BEDFORD — Lawrence County motorists are advised to seek alternate routes as a section of Budd Stipp Road has been shut down for emergency repairs.

Lawrence County Highway Superintendent Brian Sowder announced the closure Tuesday morning after a “large hole” was discovered in the roadway. Out of an abundance of caution, the Highway Department has moved to close the road immediately to address the structural issue and ensure driver safety.
While a specific reopening time has not yet been established, crews are expected to remain on-site throughout the day to evaluate the cause of the hole and complete necessary backfilling and resurfacing.
“We will close the road today to repair the issue,” Sowder stated, emphasizing the department’s priority on stabilizing the infrastructure before allowing traffic to return.
Residents living along Budd Stipp Road are encouraged to check for updates from the Highway Department, as the duration of the closure will depend on the extent of the damage found beneath the surface.
