Charles Dean Brazzell, age 91, of Bedford, Indiana, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on March 12, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humility, and quiet strength.
Born November 29, 1934, in Bedford, Indiana, Charles lived a life defined by hard work, integrity, and compassion for others. He graduated from Bedford Stonecutters High School and, at the age of 21, enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served as a Staff Sergeant. During his service, he developed skills that helped shape his future career. Following his time in the military, Charles began a long career with Otis Elevator, where he worked as an electrical engineer for many years before retiring in 1992.
Charles was a man of Christian faith and a devoted husband to Shirley Ann (Brewer) Brazzell, with whom he shared many loving years until her passing in 2008.
Charles loved his country and honored his military service throughout his life. He also quietly supported many charitable organizations, believing strongly in helping others whenever he could. His generosity and compassion reflected the character of a man who truly cared about the well-being of others.
In his free time, Charles enjoyed spending summers at his cabin on Mystic Lake, where he loved fishing and taking in the peaceful beauty of nature. Those quiet moments reflected the kind of man he was—steady, humble, and deeply appreciative of life’s simple joys.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Norman and Ida Jane Brazzell; his beloved wife, Shirley Ann (Brewer) Brazzell; his son, Hargus Dean Brazzell; two grandsons, Thomas Brazzell and Charles Michael Brazzell; 1 great granddaughter, Brooklynn Ball, and his siblings, Wilma, Doyle, Delphi, Tillie, Mary, and Donna Brazzell. Charles is survived by his daughter, Deanna (Richard) Brazzell Jones; two sons, Charles (Donna) Brazzell and Tony (Tina) Brazzell; his stepson, John (Lisa) Strange Jr.; and stepdaughter, Sherry (Brian) Sterling; 21 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward his legacy of love and kindness.
Charles will be remembered as a truly good man—a quiet soul with a generous heart whose life touched many. His memory will live on in the stories shared, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
