BLOOMINGTON My Sister’s Closet of Monroe County, based in Bloomington, provides clothing, job-training support, and career-focused services to women facing poverty, domestic violence, homelessness, and other difficult circumstances. The organization’s mission is to promote economic self-sufficiency by equipping women with the tools and confidence needed to enter or re-enter the workforce.

Founded in 1998, the nonprofit operates a resale boutique stocked with donated clothing and accessories, with proceeds helping fund programs that provide professional attire, mentoring, life-skills training, and interview preparation for clients referred by social-service agencies throughout the region.

According to the organization, its approach focuses on restoring dignity and confidence while helping participants present themselves as credible job candidates. Leaders say the results are significant, with about 85 percent of participants finding better-paying employment within six weeks of their first appointment.

Representatives from My Sister’s Closet will have a booth at the 2026 Women’s Expo tomorrow, Saturday, the 14th at the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence County, where attendees can learn more about the nonprofit’s programs, volunteer opportunities, and ways to donate clothing or financial support. Organizers say the event offers the public a chance to see firsthand how the group helps women rebuild their futures.

Expo visitors are encouraged to stop by the booth to meet staff and volunteers, hear success stories, and learn how community support helps the organization continue to serve hundreds of women each year.

My Sister’s Closet leaders say community involvement remains essential to their mission, noting that donations, boutique purchases, and volunteer work all help fund the services that allow women to gain confidence, secure employment, and move toward long-term independence.
