Anderson man arrested for possession of cocaine and operating a vehicle while intoxicated 

ANDERSON – On March 6th at approximately 11:00 p.m., Indiana State Police Trooper Taylor Murdock assisted the Anderson Police Department with a traffic stop for an equipment violation at the intersection of Madison Avenue and 20th Street in Anderson.

During the interaction with the driver, Trooper Murdock detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle. Officers also observed an open container of gin inside the vehicle. 

The driver was identified as Leon J. Allen, a 58-year-old Anderson man.

After conducting standardized field sobriety tests, Allen demonstrated signs of impairment and was taken into custody for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers located a .32 caliber revolver under the driver’s s seat.  Officers also discovered approximately one gram of suspected cocaine inside the center console.

Leon J. Allen, 58, of Anderson, was transported to the Madison County Jail and preliminary charged with possession of cocaine, a Level 5 felony, operating a vehicle while intoxicated Endangerment, a Class A misdemeanor and OWI, a class C misdemeanor.

Anderson Police Department Officer Sanderson assisted Trooper Murdock in this investigation.

Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent until proven guilty through a fair and due legal process. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
