BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY – On Saturday, February 28, 2026, Troopers from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post arrested a 64-year-old New York man on operating while intoxicated and other charges following a traffic stop on I-65 in Bartholomew County, Indiana.
Shortly after 10:30 am, a caller reported observing a Volvo semi pulling a trailer driving recklessly on I-65 Northbound near the 60-mile marker, near Columbus, Indiana. Trp. Korry Clark located the semi traveling northbound near the 65-mile marker. The commercial motor vehicle was observed driving recklessly, nearly striking a guardrail.

Trp. Clark conducted a traffic stop on the truck on I-65 Northbound, just north of exit 68. During the traffic stop, Trp. Jayme Herbert, a certified drug recognition expert, responded to investigate the driver of the vehicle, Rodney W. Sanford, age 64, North Collins, NY, possibly impaired. A Columbus Police Department K-9 Officer also responded to assist.
Due to the investigation, troopers placed Sanford under arrest for Operating While Intoxicated. During a search of Sanford’s vehicle, troopers located suspected marijuana, THC gummies, and prescription medications.
Sanford was incarcerated in the Bartholomew County Jail on charges of Operating While Intoxicated (Drugs), Operating While Intoxicated-Endangerment, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Legend Drugs.
31 Wrecker Service responded to take possession of the vehicle and the load of strawberries being transported.
Those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
