Mitchell Winter Guard shows out at Northview High, builds momentum ahead of state prelims

MITCHELL – The Mitchell Winter Guard continued its competitive season Feb. 28 with a strong performance at Northview High School, tying for fourth place and posting a seven-point score increase at its third contest of the year.

Mitchell tied with Edgewood for fourth in a field that included several established programs, among them the reigning state champion BCSC Winter Guard of Columbus. The improvement marks steady progress for the team as it prepares for state preliminaries this Saturday in Anderson.

Following the long competition day, team members returned home and were back in action Sunday, March 1, hosting their annual Community Night. The event was well attended, offering supporters an opportunity to see the group’s 2026 production and celebrate the team’s growth this season.

Elementary clinic participants with the Mitchell Winter Guard

Earlier that same day, the Winter Guard hosted its first elementary clinic, welcoming 16 students from kindergarten through fifth grade. Team members taught participants a short routine to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” introducing younger students to the fundamentals of flag work and performance while encouraging future involvement in the program.
