Winter Weather Advisory issued for Southwest and South Central Indiana

INDIANA — The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for several counties in Southwest and South Central Indiana, warning residents to prepare for a messy mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

The advisory includes Lawrence, Sullivan, Greene, Knox, Daviess, and Martin counties.

The storm system is expected to move into the region overnight, with the advisory officially in effect from 2:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2.

Forecasters are currently projecting:

  • Snow/Sleet: Accumulations of up to one inch.
  • Ice: A light glaze of freezing rain on elevated and untreated surfaces.

Impact on Monday Morning Commute

Hazardous driving conditions are expected to be the primary concern. Because temperatures have fluctuated recently, untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick quickly as the wintry mix falls.

Safety officials are urging motorists to:

  • Slow Down: Allow extra time to reach your destination.
  • Increase Following Distance: Icy patches may not be visible (black ice).
  • Exercise Caution: Be especially mindful on bridges and overpasses, which freeze faster than standard roadways.

Local school districts and employers are advised to monitor the weather closely, as the advisory timing directly overlaps with the peak Monday morning travel window.
