Obituary: Dexter H. Sipes

August 17, 1944 – February 27, 2026

Dexter H. Sipes, 81, of Bedford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, February 27, 2026.

Born on August 17, 1944, in Cale, he was the son of Jasper “Jack” and Lillian (Hamilton) Sipes. On November 24, 1995, he married the love of his life, Becky Stevens, who survives.

A hardworking and dedicated businessman, Dexter founded Oolitic Body Shop in 1973. He later owned and operated Sipes Body Shop in Bedford with his family for more than fifty years, building not only a successful business but lasting relationships throughout the community. His entrepreneurial spirit also led him to operate D&S Excavating and Sipes Entertainment.

Dexter was deeply committed to his community. He helped establish the parade committee in 1997 and later served on the committee for the annual Christmas parade in 2000. He took great pride in helping ensure the courthouse was beautifully illuminated during the holidays, bringing joy to countless families each year. He found happiness in the simple pleasures of life — spending time outdoors, mowing on his tractor, tending his gardens, attending concerts, and enjoying his collection of pedal cars. Above all, Dexter treasured time spent with his family and friends.

He is survived by his loving wife, Becky; his children, Daniel Sipes (Melissa), Diana Case, Kristina Sears (Rusty), and Kyle Lashlee (Jody); ten grandchildren, Ashley, Nathan, Dylan, Tanner, Alex, Tevin, Dayson, Preston, Chase, and Jackie; seven great-grandchildren; his sister, Pat Gilson; his brother, Bob Sipes; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Phyllis Brock; and his brother, Norman Sipes.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 5th , in the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary, with Bro. Perry East officiating. Burial will follow at Dive Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4th , and from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at Day & Carter Mortuary.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lawrence County Cancer Patient Services or Phi Beta Psi Sorority in Bedford.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Bedford Fire Department, especially those at the north end station, for their compassionate care and support.

Dexter will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. His legacy will continue to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew him.
