South Lawrence Utilities lifts system-wide boil order

MITCHELL— South Lawrence Utilities has officially lifted the system-wide boil order for all customers as of Thursday morning.

The order, which was initially issued on Tuesday, February 24, followed a significant water main break caused by a third-party contractor near Southridge Drive. The break caused a sudden drop in water pressure, triggering the precautionary measure.

Utility officials confirmed that water samples were sent for laboratory testing following the successful repair of the main and a thorough flushing of the system. Those tests have since returned clear, confirming the water meets all safety standards for consumption.

Now that the advisory has been lifted, South Lawrence Utilities recommends that customers take the following steps to ensure their home plumbing is clear:

  • Flush Pipes: Run cold water faucets for several minutes to clear the lines.
  • Ice Makers: Discard any ice made during the boil order and allow the machine to run through three cycles, discarding the ice each time.
  • Water Filters: Replace any water filters that were in use while the advisory was in effect.
  • Hot Water Heaters: In some cases, it may be beneficial to run hot water through the taps to ensure the tank has been refreshed.

The utility thanks its customers for their patience during the emergency repairs and the subsequent testing period.
