Thelma Rose (Wininger) Bauernfiend, 100, of Shoals, passed away on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Deaconess Memorial Hospital in Jasper.
Born August 24, 1925, in Martin County, she was the daughter of Merlin and Elsie (Cooper) Wininger. Rose was a graduate of Shoals High School with the class of 1943. She married Norman M. Bauernfiend on November 25, 1944, and he preceded her in death in January of 2003.
Rose was a homemaker and a member of the Dubois Crossroads Church. She was also a member of the Bateman’s Homemaker Club for many years. She loved gardening and tending to her flowers, enjoyed canning, and spending time with her family.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Randy (Vicky) Bauernfiend and Ernie (Minta) Bauernfiend; grandchildren, Rhonda Smith, Cheryl (Kenny) Callahan, Tammy Bauernfiend, Amanda (Mike) Fischer, Emilee Bauernfiend, Tiffany (Adam) Wittmer, Erica (Clint) Carie, and Travis Bauernfiend; 21 great grandchildren; 15 great- great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Norman; children, Sheila Bauernfiend and George Bauernfiend; grandson, Andy Bauernfiend; and siblings, Woodrow Wininger, Merlin Wininger Jr., Joyce Hembree, Ruth Braun, Eldean Sherfick, and Patsy Underwood.
Funeral service will be at Noon on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Dubois Crossroads Church with Pastor Tim Fleece officiating. Burial will follow in the Dubois Crossroads Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the Queen-Lee Chapel of George Funeral Care, 431 High Street in Shoals, and from 11 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday at the Dubois Crossroads Church.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers in Rose’s memorty to the Dubois Crossroads Church.
