BLOOMINGTON – The City of Bloomington will welcome 9th District Congresswoman Erin Houchin to thank her for her efforts to secure federal funding for critical Bloomington City Utilities (CBU) water distribution system improvements.
The event will recognize funding provided through H.R. 6938, the Commerce, Justice, Science; Energy and Water Development, and Interior and Environment Appropriations Act, 2026, which supports upgrades to CBU’s South-Central and West Booster Pump Stations.

Attending will be Erin Houchin, Congresswoman, Indiana’s 9th District, Kerry Thomson, Mayor, City of Bloomington and Katherine Zaiger, Director, City of Bloomington Utilities
The event will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers at City Hall at 401 N. Morton Street on Thursday, February 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.
Funding secured through H.R. 6938 will support rehabilitation and modernization of the South-Central and West Booster Pump Stations, critical components of Bloomington’s water distribution system.
Booster pump stations help maintain consistent water pressure across miles of distribution infrastructure serving the City of Bloomington, Monroe County, and Indiana University. Many of these stations rely on aging equipment. The rehabilitation project will replace obsolete technology, modernize monitoring and control systems, enhance cybersecurity, and incorporate Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) to improve operational efficiency, system performance, and long-term resilience. These upgrades will strengthen reliability, support public health, and improve the efficiency of the regional water system.
