JASPER – Bedford North Lawrence’s season came to a close during the IHSAA boys swimming sectional at Jasper on Saturday.
The Stars finished fourth in the team competition with 197 points. Jasper won the title with 495.
The winner in each individual event qualified for the IHSAA state championship at the IU Natatorium on Feb. 27-28.
BNL’s top finishers included the 200-yard medley relay (Jaxon McIntosh, Franklin Johnson, Cameron Irwin and Lincoln Gabhart were third in 1:48.97), Gabhart (fourth in the 100 butterfly in 59.12), and the 200 freestyle relay (Johnson, Talon Hooten, McIntosh and Gabhart were third in 1:58.31).
“The guys had a perfect Saturday in my book,” BNL coach Adam Young said. “We took some lumps Thursday as far as some swims not quite making it to the A final. Most of them went faster than some of the A final swims today. But that’s why you have to hit it hard both days.
“The relays knocked it out of the park, moving up significantly. Jax McIntosh had a great couple of B final wins and I think he is starting to understand what he’s capable of. Every one of the guys did fantastic and I couldn’t be happier or prouder of their performance.”
