Bedford man charged with dealing meth following State Police sting

BEDFORD — A Bedford man is facing felony charges after an Indiana State Police investigation allegedly caught him selling methamphetamine while already out on bond for a previous drug dealing case.

Tyler R. Allen, 34, of State Road 158, has been charged with dealing methamphetamine, a Level 4 Felony, according to a probable cause affidavit filed on February 4, 2026.

The investigation, led by ISP Detective Caleb B. Garvin of the Drug Enforcement Section, began in April 2025. According to court documents, a confidential informant notified police that Allen was actively distributing methamphetamine within Lawrence County.

Detective Garvin noted that Allen was already a person of interest, as he was out on bond for a 2023 case involving the alleged dealing of 36 grams of methamphetamine, a Level 2 felony.

Surveillance on Allen’s residence reportedly revealed further suspicious activity, including a “short stop” visit from a known local drug distributor. Police also identified Allen’s vehicle, a blue 2001 Chrysler Voyager mini-van, which would later be used in the alleged transaction.

The affidavit details a “controlled purchase” arranged by investigators in April 2025. Allen allegedly agreed to sell the informant 3.5 grams of methamphetamine—referred to in recorded audio as a “game”—for $70.

The meeting took place in the Mitchell area. Detective Garvin, who has been involved in over 100 narcotics investigations and serves as an instructor for the “Top Gun” Indiana Covert Drug Investigation School, stated he positively identified Allen as he exited the Chrysler mini-van to approach the informant’s vehicle.

While the video surveillance of the buy did not capture Allen’s face, audio recordings from the encounter allegedly caught Allen discussing the high potency of the drugs. On the recording, Allen reportedly claimed he had been “up for three days” and indicated his source of supply was “local” to Lawrence County.

The informant turned over approximately 3.5 grams of methamphetamine to detectives immediately following the meeting.
