Single-vehicle crash on I-65 claims one life

WHITE COUNTY – On Tuesday, shortly after 10:00 p.m., Indiana State Police troopers responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 65 near the 193 mile-marker.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Francisco Miramontes shows that a yellow 2006 GMC 3500 Savana box truck was traveling southbound when it left the roadway and entered the median. The driver overcorrected, causing the truck to roll over onto its side and cross both lanes, coming to rest on the right shoulder, where it subsequently caught fire. The driver was unable to exit the truck.

A Good Samaritan who witnessed the crash and stopped to render aid was unable to reach the driver.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene by the White County Coroner’s Office. Notification to next-of-kin has been made, and the name and identification of the driver will be made available by the White County Coroner.

Trooper Miramontes was assisted by troopers from the Lafayette Post, Wolcott Fire Department, Wolcott Ambulance, Brookston Fire Department, Brookston First Responders, Monticello Fire Department, INDOT, and Farney’s Towing.
