Mary E. (Basinger) Lucas, 82, of 2032 I Street in Bedford, passed away at Westview Nursing and Rehab on February 6, 2026.
Mary was born on May 5, 1943, in Tell City, Indiana, to James ‘Ben’ Basinger and Agnes Cassidy Basinger. She married Carl Lucas, and he preceded her in death in April of 2008.
Mary was a lifetime employee of RCA until the RCA plant closed in Bloomington, Indiana. She enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and neighbors, especially her lifelong friend, Shirley Reynolds. Mary had a “green thumb,” as they say, when it came to growing plants and flowers, and she also enjoyed being a lifelong resident of I Street.
Survivors include two brothers, Louis (Gerri) Basinger and Frank (Janet) Basinger, both of Bedford; sister-in-law, Beverly Kennedy; nephews, Eddie Basinger, Mario (Susan) Basinger, and Rob (Sonja) Pruitt; and nieces, Janet Turner, Donna (Kenny) Clark, Angie Basinger (significant other, James), and Grace (Tyson) George.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Lucas; son, David Basinger (significant other, Sue Wilkerson); parents, James “Ben” Basinger and Agnes Cassidy Basinger; sisters, Wilma Basinger (1939), Anna Lee Basinger (1942), Theresa Pruitt (2005), and Dora Cararway (2006); brothers, Bernard Patrick Basinger (1951), Jim Basinger (1986), and John Basinger (2012); sister-in-law, Susie Basinger; brother-in-law, Charlie Pruitt; and niece, April Basinger.
Funeral Services for Mary will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Ferguson-Lee Chapel of Thorne Family Funeral Homes in Bedford, with Fr. Jegan Peter officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m., also at Ferguson-Lee Chapel.
The family requests that contributions be made to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in memory of Mary Lucas.
