Lt. Mike Young to retire after 35 years as an Indiana State Trooper

PORTER CO. – Today Lt. Mike Young is set to retire from the Indiana State Police after serving the State of Indiana for more than three and a half decades assigned to the Toll Road Post.

Lt. Young is a native of Pleasant Lake, IN and a graduate of Prairie Heights High School.  Following high school, Young attended Manchester College earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice before applying to the Indiana State Police.

Young is a graduate of the Indiana State Police 48th Recruit Academy that graduated in December of 1990.  Following graduation from the academy, Young was assigned to the Toll Road Post where he patrolled Zone 1, Lake and Porter Counties.

During his tenure with the State Police Young was first promoted to the rank of Corporal in August of 2004.  He was promoted again to the rank of Sergeant in 2007 where he supervised a squad of troopers.  His most recent promotion occurred in 2013 when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he served as the Toll Road Post District Commander until his retirement.

Throughout the years, Young has been a Field Training Officer (FTO), and Standard Field Sobriety Test (SFST) Instructor, been on an ISP Interdiction Team, and served as a member of the SWAT Team from 1997-2008.

Young resides in Porter County.
