INDIANA — State Senator Eric Koch (R-Bedford) met with high-ranking Canadian diplomats on Monday, January 26, to reaffirm the robust economic partnership between the State of Indiana and its northern neighbors.
The meeting highlighted the deep-rooted trade and cultural connections between the Hoosier State and several Canadian provinces. Senator Koch hosted a delegation that included:
- Bin Lau, Director of the Chicago office of the Government of Alberta
- Alex Kostenko, Commercial Officer for Ontario
- Earl Provost, Ontario Agent-General

Canada remains one of Indiana’s most vital international partners. To formalize this commitment, Senator Koch introduced three distinct resolutions during the legislative session. These resolutions officially recognize and celebrate the unique individual relationships Indiana maintains with Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario.
“Indiana has long enjoyed a strong and productive economic relationship with Canada,” Koch stated, emphasizing that these partnerships are essential for local job growth and industrial stability.
The economic impact of this relationship is significant, spanning sectors from agriculture and manufacturing to energy and technology.
| Province | Primary Areas of Collaboration |
| Ontario | Automotive manufacturing, steel, and technology. |
| Alberta | Energy resources and agricultural innovation. |
| Quebec | Aerospace, aluminum, and renewable energy. |
The visit serves as a precursor to continued trade discussions throughout 2026, as Indiana seeks to expand its footprint in the global market while maintaining the regional alliances that sustain its manufacturing core.
